What does it take to be a successful entrepreneur?
It takes the stubborn will to prove that you are right when everyone around you, and even most of the voices in your head, are explaining why you are wrong. I had plenty of opportunity to listen to the voices of those who’ve made a life out of playing it safe, while wishing they had the guts to take leap of faith, every single day, that true entrepreneurs take. I’m glad I didn’t listen to them.
As I coach men, women, and youth from all walks of life, I’ve noticed a big mistake that many entrepreneurs make. They subscribe to the school of Kevin Costner and the sentimental movie about baseball, Field of Dreams: “If you build it, they will come.” Many have found out the hard way, this is not always true. Unfortunately many find this to be false, after spending money they didn’t have, hoping to make money they really need. This is where someone like me, a Transformation Coach, is worth their weight in gold. Having made the same mistakes a few times myself, I no longer subscribe to the Filed of Dreams business theory. It’s been proven, you can spend every dollar you have, build it, and they still don’t come.
Today, I’ll give you some priceless coaching for free. Are you ready? Here it is: Sell the problem you solve, not the product you have. Let that marinate for a moment. People don’t buy products. People buy end results. If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re not in the product business. If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re in the problem solving business. If you can sell the problem you solve, and it’s a problem people want solved, people will but whatever you’re selling. That’s what it take to be a successful entrepreneur?
