The mindset of Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, also known as the "Red Baron", was truly the mindset of a something special. Manfred was a fighter pilot with the German Air Force during World War I.

Because he was the son of a prominent Prussian family, was assigned to the army's supply branch, instead of a combat unit but In 1915, commanders in the German military received a complaint from a young cavalryman named Manfred von Richthofen, who wrote, “I have not gone to war to collect cheese and eggs, but for another purpose.”

He rejected the comfort of his cushy supply job and chose to fight for what he believed. He wanted to see combat, up close and personal. He needed only twenty-four hours of training to take his first solo flight, in a brand-new Albatross biplane. A biplane with an open cockpit and a skeletal frame which was balanced on two thin wheels, it was rickety and ragedy by modern standards.

Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen took that biplane, painted it red, and became a terror in the sky. During his three-year career, von Richthofen gunned down eighty planes. That’s more, by official standards than any other ace pilot in World War I.

When you are walking in sync with your purpose, success is yours to harvest. The tools and resources you have at your disposal don't have to be perfect when you are in perfect alignment with your assignment. Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen painted his biplane red, while others were painting their planes to be less visible because he wanted his enemies to see him coming.

That's when you know you're something special ... when they can see you coming but they just can't stop you from succeeding.
